Up and down the country churches, communities and individuals are gearing up for Christian Aid Week. This year, the town of South Molton is coming together for something bigger than a morning gathering.
In the North Devon town of South Molton, preparations are already under way. The local Christian Aid group is bringing people together for a special coffee morning, and they're brewing up more than just tea and coffee. It’ll feature singing from South Molton Community Primary School and a visit from their local MP to speak up about the urgent issues close to their hearts.
Will you help fund vital tools and training, so farmers can support their community to escape hunger?
A time to act, and raise our voices
Lynne Miller, one of the organisers, says the event is a chance to have meaningful conversations and show solidarity with communities feeling the harshest impacts of climate change.
'We are taking part with a coffee morning at the Assembly Rooms...with singing from the South Molton Community Primary School. We want to do something to help those suffering so terribly from effects of climate change and conflict.'
This year’s Christian Aid Week focuses on communities in Guatemala, where climate change is making farming unpredictable and pushing families deeper into poverty. By coming together locally, Lynne hopes the people of South Molton can play their part.
From heartfelt conversations over coffee to songs sung by schoolchildren, every part of the event reflects a spirit of unity with communities across the country, all taking action in their own ways.
Stirring up conversation with your MP
Your voice matters—and speaking to your local MP is one of the most effective ways to make it heard. The coffee morning at South Molton’s Assembly Rooms, is more than just a cuppa.
'We want to highlight our fears about the environment with our MP,' said Lynne.
When MPs attend community events like this, they see first-hand how many of their constituents care about climate justice, global poverty and a more just world. It opens up space for honest conversation—and helps build relationships that can lead to real change.
